Bookshelves are for more than books! (Original posting date February 5, 2010)

We have built in bookshelves that we had to do something with! I decided to try and decorate them to the best of my ability! I got some ideas from magazines, and TV shows

Let's Chill!!

The Family Room is a place where we always chill...watch t.v....hang out...have company, etc. So, the family room has been our most recent project over the last couple of weeks. Hubby completed the painting (he said that I was off limits with the paint brush), and I did some decorating. We still haven't completed that room, for we are looking forward to changing the carpet and getting new (brown) furniture. I'm also on the hunt for either a large coffee table, or a large ottoman that can also be used for additional storage. Here are some before/work in process pictures, and the current pics are still to come!

We've got color!

Bedroom Painting (Original posting date December 20, 2009)

The bedroom is still not complete! I've been banned from anymore painting from the hubby. Apparently I didn't do the best job! LOL! So, he is suppose to complete the painting of the ceiling, and get new baseboards then we can start on the closets and bring in some furniture!!

Below is the work I completed over the weekend!
Please ignore my appearance here...LOL!

This is the accent wall complete! Whew!

Here are the final walls. The lighting is awful in this picture, but we were pleased with the results. Please note that the ceiling will not stay yellow. Not sure what the previous owners were thinking with orange walls & yellow ceiling! Yikes!

Still Painting (Original posting date December 8, 2009)

Well, my goal to have the master bedroom completely painted was almost completed, but I must admit I was beat! That was a lot of work. Taping the corners & edges, up/down on the ladder, waiting for the paint to dry and then going back for a second coat! Yikes! The accent wall is done, but I still need to put the second coat on the other three walls. My goal is to complete that tomorrow. After the paint is completed then it's off to pick out fabric for the headboard I plan on making.Check out the pics above of what is done so far...

Bedroom Progress (Original posting date December 2, 2009)

So, when we first purchased the house I decided that my first project would be the bedroom. I swore that I wouldn't try to start any other room but the bedroom, but as you can see below that didn't happen! I tried to also start on the kitchen, but I've come back to my plan, and now my focus is back on the bedroom. I've spent the last two evenings trying to prime the bedroom walls. The previous owners left the bedroom a bright orange color with a yellow ceiling!! So, I had to go over it with a grey primer to cover the orange, and so the new warm/dark colors I've chosen show properly!
I am going to try my best to mimic the bedroom from the TV show My Wife & Kids. When I first saw their room I told myself that I want my bedroom to look just like it however, I've already Had to make a slight change from their room. Their main color is a purple color, and their accent wall is a warm red-ish color. I just couldn't do the purple...not really a purple person, so I decided to go with the below colors instead. My goal is to have the room completely painted by the end of the week!
I decided on the Salute color, and the Tigereye color that I actually got for the kitchen for the bedroom. Both are made by Sherwin-Williams...
Let me know what you think!

I think I've decided on the kitchen colors (Original posting date November 28, 2009)

Well, I've been doing some research regarding our temporary kitchen updates, and came up with the following.
Instead of painting the cabinets white I've decided to go with a cream-ish color, and paint the walls Tigereye SW 6362 color that is made by sherwin-williams.

I'm going to get the samples today, so I'll let you know how it goes.

Black Friday (Original posting date November 28, 2009)

Whew! Yesterday also known as the day after Thanksgiving...also known as Black Friday was a long long day!! I ended up not going to sleep at all, and just stayed up until it was time to shop! Boy was that a mistake! This year was we didn't do a lot of shopping like we normally do on black friday. We ended up just going to Target, and Macys. We attempted to go to Walmart after breakfast, but it was SO crazy in there that we just left and went home. My husband and sister actually went out with us (mom and I) on Black Friday which was a total shock! LOL! They complained the whole time, but I think overall they had a good time!I got about 2 hours of sleep before I had to head out again to assist my make up mentor with her clients make up for a wedding. Yes, I am a make-up artist in training so this blog will be about my experience with that as well.

My first post...now what?? LOL (Original posting date November 25, 2009)

I'm not really sure the direction I would like to take this blog. There is a lot going on in my life that I would love to document, so I guess it will include it all. I will start off with the house that my husband and I just purchased. 4 bedroom 2.5 bath brick house in Warren. We just love it!!!! It's almost been two weeks since we moved in so we are still unpacking and trying to get settled. There are numerous projects that we need to tackle, but we told ourselves that we would take them each one room at a time. Hubby will start with the master bath, and I will start with the master bedroom. However, it looks like I will also include the kitchen as a mini project. LOL! We want to totally remodel the kitchen, but since that requires a lot of funding, it looks like I will have to do small enhancements to give the kitchen an updated feel. I'm thinking about painting the cabinets, and just adding new knobs, and of course we will be getting a new dishwasher and range to match our new refrigerator.
Let me know what you think!

Cruising into 30 w/the family!

March 6, 2010
I'm typing this on the last day of our cruise. I should have typed little by little each day because there is so much to type about. 7 day cruise with hubby, mom, Cherie, Stephaine, Sarah, LaTisha, Courtney H., Paris, and Aunt Linda. For most it was our first cruise, and we did it big by going to the Southern Caribbean...ports, and all were beautiful and a lot of fun. The port of call I enjoyed the most was Dominica, which we learned is pronounced, Dom-in-nee-ka. That port was the least developed, yet I learned the most. They had tons of natural resources, and it helped me appreciate my life and what I have. The locals there didn't seem to have much at all. Their housing was poor, and their access to most things we can get easily (gym shoes, electronics, clothing, etc) was very limited.
Here is a pic of our first cruise stop.
I had the most fun in Barbados. We took a taxi cab tour, and our tour guide was a lot of fun, and really made the trip.I must admit it was a chalenge to travel with that many people for we daily had different opinions, reactions, attitudes, budgets, etc that made it an adventure, but overall we all got along and had a good time.
